Man Utd star Scott McTominay hailed as best on the field vs Barcelona by pundits

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has had praise heaped on him following the 1-0 loss to Barcelona at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils suffered a blow in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final but still hope to progress through to the final four when they travel to the Camp Nou next Tuesday.

Barcelona took the lead thanks to an own goal from Luke Shaw which was awarded after a VAR review.

Lionel Messi provided the cross for Luis Suarez to head back inside, with the ball hitting Shaw on the way into the net.

United had a penalty shout turned down before the break after McTominay hit the turf, while Diogo Dalot also spurned a free header for the hosts as well.

But despite the defeat, McTominay was hailed post-match by Lineker and Ferdinand for his all-action display.

Lineker told BT Sport: "Scott McTominay I thought was excellent tonight. He was probably Manchester United's best player if not the best player on the pitch."

Rio Ferdinand added: "He's added to his name now. He was very good today. He was positive and reliable.

"This game and the PSG match prove to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he can be trusted in big games."
