Man Utd star Marcus Rashford trademarks his name in the USA after Jay-Z link-up

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has trademarked his name in the USA after teaming up with rapper Jay-Z.

Rashford has starred on the pitch this season, scoring 22 goals and posting 11 assists in all competitions as United target a top-four spot and a trophy double.

And the 22-year-old is plotting for similar success away from football with his latest move, which could allow him to make millions by marketing all kinds of products.

England ace Rashford has filed official documents in the US, which could see his name used on all sorts of goods from deodorants and aftershave to sports gear and computer games.

Jay-Z signed the footballer to his Roc Nation management company last month, and the pair appear to have been quick to get the ball rolling on plans to make Rashford a global superstar.

Rashford's application to the US Patent and Trademark Office has been accepted and will be published in America’s Trademark Official Gazette on Tuesday before being approved, according to The Sun.

“This is a smart move," a source was quoted saying by the publication.

“It protects his image rights in the US and shows that Jay-Z is keen to make the American audience more aware of Marcus as a sportsman and a socially aware role model.”

United star Rashford drew high praise after his recent campaign persuaded a Government U-turn to provide meals to disadvantaged children throughout the summer.

President of Roc Nation Sports International, Michael Yormark, praised Rashford for being a "shining example" of embodying the firm's focus of "protecting and defending those that can't protect and defend themselves".

He added: "Companies today want to align with people that are passionate about community, that want to take a stand against injustice, and so we encourage all of our clients to be aggressive in this space."

Anyone with an objection to Rashford's application to trademark his name has 30 days to lodge a complaint.
