Man Utd star Daniel James lauded as 'revelation' who is 'the heir to Ryan Giggs' throne' as national press go wild for Welshman

Daniel James once again hit the headlines after netting another wonder goal for Manchester United against Southampton.

The Wales flyer cut in and rifled the ball into the top corner of the net, his third goal in four games for the Old Trafford giants club following his £15million summer switch from Swansea City.

United failed to hold on to the lead, but the national newspapers picked out the Welshman as the shining light for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side following the match.

Here is how the Sunday papers reacted to James' stunner.

The Sunday Times

"From the earliest minutes Daniel James stood head and shoulders above every other attacker.

"For all Solskjaer’s belief, there are worries. Lindelof is a good player who makes mistakes, Marcus Rashford is quick and skilful but does not hold onto the ball well enough when played centrally.

"James, though, has been a revelation."

Mail on Sunday

"If Ryan Giggs used to tear you apart, United fans want you to know that Daniel James is the heir to his throne. They are big shoes to fill. But the 21-year-old is making quite a fist of it already."

Sunday Telegraph

"Daniel James, a promising young prospect with a fierce right foot, stands out as their best attacking option.

"The 21-year-old hits the ball hard off both feet and might have had more goals. He is extremely quick and he takes his shots early, an approach that has yielded him the same number of league goals as Sanchez got in 18 months."

The BBC

"This Welsh youngster, looking a bargain at £15m from Swansea City, is already carrying a heavy burden of responsibility but looks comfortable with its weight.

"James has been the biggest plus for Manchester United in these opening weeks, having already been taken to the hearts of supporters who have re-written the song about his great fellow countryman and predecessor Ryan Giggs tearing defences apart."

The Independent

"A signing not perhaps lauded in the manner that those of Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were, James is fast becoming a real difference-maker in the attacking trio.

"It should be no surprise. James’ sheer athleticism gives him a trump card few others boast, and unlike certain speedsters of the past he has real intelligence in the final third, particularly in front of goal.

"This was evident to a certain extent at Swansea last season, but since arriving at Old Trafford he has elevated himself to another level and rather quickly (as is very much his wont) evolved from fringe figure to vital forward threat."

The Observer

"James’ performance was heartening and his return of three goals in four league games translates to having the same tally of Premier League goals in a United shirt as Alexis Sanchez.

"James’ performance was an overwhelmingly positive takeaway. His 10th-minute opener was magnificent, an unstoppable strike that soared into the roof of the net after Cedric Soares allowed him to jink inside on to his right foot."
