Man Utd star Bruno Fernandes compared to Paul Scholes by club legend Bryan Robson

Manchester United's star signing Bruno Fernandes has been compared to Paul Scholes by fellow club legend Bryan Robson.

Fernandes has breathed new life into United's season since joining in the January transfer window, with the Red Devils unbeaten since the Portugal star arrived at Old Trafford.

United had not lost in 11 games in all competitions when football was suspended amid the coronavirus crisis - and while two of those games were before Fernandes signed, the midfielder has been instrumental in ensuring his teammates maintained their momentum.

The 25-year-old has scored twice and grabbed three assists in just five Premier League matches, picking up the league's player of the month award for February and also netting for United in the Europa League.

And his winning mentality has rubbed off on other players, with some in the squad having spoken of how he refuses to accept anything less than the best from his teammates.

Now former United captain Robson has compared Fernandes to Paul Scholes - one of the finest players of the Sir Alex Ferguson era when the Red Devils dominated English football and conquered Europe twice.

"Since he came in he has looked a special player. He has a fantastic attitude", Robson told TalkSport.

"I have met him a few times, I have seen him at the training ground, he mixes really well with the lads, you can see why he was captain of Sporting [Lisbon] and what a talent he is.

"He is not like a Roy Keane, Paul Ince or a Nicky Butt-type of player. For me, he is more like a Paul Scholes; he is brilliant at getting into little pockets in between the defence and the midfield, he gets into these areas and gets himself space.

"But he has also got terrific vision where he sees a pass, he’s got the same vision to hit those great balls that Scholesy used to hit — and he’s also got a goal in his locker.

"Hopefully he proves me right and he goes on to be another Paul Scholes for Manchester United."
