Man Utd star Axel Tuanzebe braced for "brutal" upcoming Liverpool clash

Axel Tuanzebe has admitted Man Utd must "go back to the drawing board" if they are to get a result against rivals Liverpool.

United slumped to their third Premier League defeat of the season away at Newcastle on Sunday, leaving them with just eight points from as many games.

Next up for the Red Devils after the international break is the visit of league leaders Liverpool , who have picked up maximum points so far in the campaign.

But despite their contrasting fortunes, youngster Tuanzebe feels United are just going through a rocky patch and can take points from their rivals.

He told MUTV : “We go back to the drawing board, the international break [is] now time for us to regroup. We believe in what we’re doing, in time it will come.

“Now it’s just that tough phase. Next game we look forward to is Liverpool. [We] definitely want to get a result in that game.”

Academy graduate Tuanzebe started alongside Harry Maguire at centre-back for the clash at St James' Park.

The match was decided by a long-range strike from 19-year-old debutant Matty Longstaff to pile more pressure on United's underachievers.

And Tuanzebe was aware the fixture with Liverpool would be an even fiercer encounter, after drawing on experiences from his time at youth level.

"It’s always a big game. Through my academy stages, Liverpool is a must-win. It’s a brutal game. It wasn’t a tippy-tappy game; no matter what age group.

“Obviously coming here to the first team, I expect more of the same. It will be a game where we need to grind it out and stick together and produce a result.”

United can take some comfort knowing Liverpool have failed to win on their last six trips to Old Trafford, with their last victory coming in 2014.

But Jurgen Klopp's side are an all-too different animal now, and United are still sweating over the fitness of the likes of Paul Pogba for the match.

Tuanzebe added: "Obviously, we're waiting for players to come back [from injury] and that will be a positive to strengthen the squad again.

“[It] gives us time to reflect and build on our game because again we’re having a lot of possession but we need to have that final kind of penetration in the final third [to] give us chances to win games.”
