Man Utd 'snubbed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang' transfer after seeing something they didn't like

Manchester United reportedly snubbed the chance to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang due to concerns about his playing style before he was allowed to head to Arsenal .

Aubameyang was tracked by the Red Devils for a number of months during his prolific spell at Borussia Dortmund and they looked set to pull the trigger when Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffered a serious knee injury in April 2017.

But, according to The Athletic , the club were left unconvinced the Gabonese striker was the right man after months of scouting.

Instead, they opted to splash £75million on Romelu Lukaku, who departed the club after a largely unsuccessful stint to join Inter Milan this summer.

It is claimed then-United manager Jose Mourinho was looking for a more physical striker capable of pressing and holding up the ball, leading them to pass up the chance to sign Aubameyang.

That allowed Arsenal to swoop, bringing him to the club in what was then a club-record £56million deal in January 2018.

He hit the ground running at the Emirates and has been a major hit, already scoring 49 goals in just 77 games for the Gunners in all competitions.

Whilst Aubameyang has become Arsenal's star man in attack, along with Alexandre Lacazette, United are still searching for their focal point and looking to re-enter the transfer market in the summer.

A new striker is on their radar with experienced performers Mario Mandzukic and Thomas Muller in the mix as well as Moussa Dembele and Callum Wilson.

United have been linked with Aubameyang since he became an Arsenal player, but they seem unlikely to make a move to raid their Premier League rivals in the future unless club bosses have performed a u-turn on their views of the player since his Dortmund days.
