Man Utd set unwanted Premier League record ahead of Man City showdown

Manchester United have set an unwanted Premier League record - before they even kick a ball against Manchester City .

The Red Devils have been quoted as big as 6/1 by some bookmakers to beat their rivals at Old Trafford - the longest price they have ever been for a home game in the top flight.

They are 11/2 to take the three points with Ladbrokes, the highest the bookie has quoted for a United home Premier League game.

The previous longest was 11/5 in the same fixture last season.

United's odds come after a run of six defeats in eight games.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed as the club's permanent manager on March 28, having won 14 of his first 17 games in charge before back-to-back losses against Arsenal and Wolves .

A further defeat to Wolves, two losses against Barcelona and Sunday's 4-0 humbling by Everton have followed leaving bookies in no doubt of the result on Wednesday night.

It's a crucial match for both sides with City needing a win to leapfrog Liverpool at the top of the table.

United, meanwhile, are trying to keep pace in the race for the top four with two of themselves, Tottenham , Arsenal and Chelsea set to miss out on a place in next season's Champions League.
