Man Utd set to gatecrash Liverpool's €20m 'agreement' for ex-Swansea City midfielder Renato Sanches

Liverpool could face competition from bitter rivals Manchester United for Renato Sanches, according to reports in Italy.

Gazzetta Dello Sport claim the Premier League champions have already made an approach for the midfielder, who has rediscovered a run of form since moving to French side Lille.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has reportedly identified the player as a possible replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who is entering the final six months of his contract. Indeed, according to another Italian outlet, an "agreement" has already been met for the Portuguese star, who is valued at around €20million.

United are believed to have joined the growing list of admirers, with the Ligue 1 outfit reportedly ready to welcome a big-money offer for the player, given their precarious financial position.

Recent reports have claimed that Lille have run up debts worth up to €200m.

Serie A giants Inter Milan are also reportedly in the frame.

A return to the Premier League would come as a surprise given the player's inability to adapt to the pace and physicality of English football during a simply disastrous loan spell at Swansea City.

Perhaps his most infamous moment in a Swans shirt arrived in a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridgew, where he passed straight into an advertising hoarding.

After 12 appearances, Sanches suffered a hamstring injury that effectively cut short his time at the club.

Spells in and out of the first team at parent club Bayern Munich followed, before the 23-year-old moved to Lille for £25m last year.

He has since enjoyed something of a renaissance in France, displaying the sort of form that saw him emerge as one of European football's brightest young talents at Euro 2016.
