Man Utd sent pointed Dayot Upamecano transfer message by RB Leipzig

Red Bull Leipzig have responded to reports Man Utd are chasing defender Dayot Upamecano by sending a clear message to the Premier League club and any other potential suitors.

The 21-year-old attracted plenty of interest from England and abroad last season, but put any speculation surrounding his future to bed by penning a new contract.

Upamecano has now committed himself to Leipzig until at least 2023, eliminating any immediate concerns the German club had of losing the centre-back for a cut-price.

That didn't seem to deter United though who were said to be lining up a bid for the Frenchman, evoking a reaction from Leipzig on social media.

The Bundesliga club shared their tweet from July announcing Upamecano's new contract, adding 'ICYMI' (In case you missed it).

Arsenal were one of the other clubs linked with a move for Upamecano prior to him extending his deal.

Leipzig were seemingly never in danger of losing Upamecano for nothing due to an agreement with the player and his agent, and he will no doubt command a higher fee should he move on in the near future.

His stock has risen since penning a new contract following his impressive performance in the Champions League quarter-final against Atletico Madrid.

While Arsenal have added defensive reinforcement in the form of Lille's Gabriel Magalhaes, United are still believed to be in the market for another centre-back.

ESPN report that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned his attentions to strengthening other areas of his squad as a transfer involving Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho is still at a standstill.

Who should Man Utd sign this summer? Have your say below.

The Red Devils are on the verge of signing Donny van de Beek from Ajax in a £40million deal which would signal their first business of the summer window.

As per ESPN's report, the next target was Upamecano, but United may have to wait until 2021 to land him.

Upamecano's old contract is said to have included a £54m release clause.

His new contract contains a similar clause for the smaller fee of £37.5m, but it does not become active until next summer.
