Man Utd scouts watch Moussa Dembele again ahead of proposed January offer

Manchester United staff were reportedly present again on Sunday night to watch Lyon forward Moussa Dembele during the Ligue 1 side's game against St Etienne.

It is well-known that an attacking player is United's number one priority in January, with Marcus Rashford and 17-year-old Mason Greenwood currently the only recognised natural strikers at the club.

While United are also considering the likes of Bournemouth's Callum Wilson and Mario Mandzukic, they are allegedly most interested in Dembele, and according to the Daily Mail they have been monitoring the 23-year-old's performances throughout the season.

They may not have been too impressed on Sunday, however, as Dembele was benched, and only came on for the last half-an-hour, where he rarely threatened during Lyon's disappointing 1-0 loss.

Nevertheless, the ex-Fulham and Lyon man has still made a bright start to the campaign, scoring six goals in eight games in Ligue 1, and his talent and goal threat may be just what United need.

Many criticised the club for failing to replace Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez when the pair left for Inter Milan during the summer, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have scored just three goals in their last six games in all competitions.

The loss to Newcastle on Sunday left United in 12th place, just two points off the relegation zone, and Solskjaer apologised to fans after the game.

“I say sorry to the fans that we are not winning games,” the Norwegian said.

“We need to get results, get momentum I can't give you what I acceptable. Every game at this club should be a win game.

“We have to raise our game and raise our supporters mood with Liverpool next.

“Confidence is a big thing. Performance and results give you confidence. When there is a decision to make they don't do it instinctively. It effects everyone.

“We are unhappy with the result. That brings out the mood of everyone. That is down to us starting a rebuild. We are going through a very difficult period."
