Man Utd's two key Mario Mandzukic transfer concerns as Juventus talks continue

Manchester United are refusing to rule out a move for Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic - but they are believed to have two key concern.

According to the Manchester Evening News , a move for the Croatian is highly unlikely due to his age, with the 33-year-old not fitting in with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's transfer policy and his high-tempo style of play.

United's current preference is to sign players under the age of 26 as part of Solskjaer's desire to build for the future, as shown by their summer signings so far.

21-year-old youngsters Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James fitted the bill perfectly, whilst Harry Maguire (26) and Paulo Dybala (25) are also seen as acceptable additions.

But with Mandzukic turning 34 this season, the club are unlikely to pursue a deal unless they find themselves with very few other options to replace Romelu Lukaku.

The Red Devils have publicly stated their desire to move away from short-term signings since the departure of former manager Jose Mourinho.

Furthermore, there are concerns over the way Mandzukic would fit in with United's style of play as Solskjaer looks to play an intense, pressing game.

With Lukaku's mobility a cause for criticism, Mandzukic would not solve that issue, although he could offer fluidity to play on the flank or centrally.

United are still looking to convince Dybala to join the club and have lodged a big-money contract offer.

But with Lukaku already believed to have agreed terms with Juventus, they could look to land Mandzukic as his replacement instead if the Dybala swap falls through.

Ed Woodward held talks with Juventus chiefs in London last week and a busy few days is expected ahead of Thursday's Premier League transfer deadline.
