Man Utd's summer transfer activity 'raised eyebrows' in dressing room

Manchester United's summer transfer activity is believed to have 'raised eyebrows' within the Red Devils dressing room.

Over the summer, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer targeted young, homegrown players who could develop with a new-look team.

But United also tried to sign Antoine Griezmann and Fernando Llorente over the summer, according to one report.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Daniel James all signed ahead of the new season.

The new strategy was supposed to mark a shift away from signing big-name players who were already at their peak.

From last season's squad, Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Ander Herrera and Maroune Fellaini all left - with no players signed to cover their positions.

The gamble of not replacing Lukaku or Sanchez up front has backfired, after both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were injured recently, leaving United desperately short of firepower.

But according to The Athletic , United were braced for Lukaku's departure from an early stage and made contact over Griezmann and Llorente, with the latter's potential arrival having been discussed among the squad.

The report says United's failure to replace Lukaku and Sanchez "raised eyebrows" among the United players.

The claim comes after Mirror Football reported earlier this week that several of United's senior players had begun to question Solskjaer's tactical acumen.

Griezmann eventually joined Barcelona from Atletico Madrid in a £105million move, while Llorente signed for Napoli having been a free agent after leaving Tottenham .

United have been linked with moves for out-of-favour Juventus stiker Mario Madzukic and Lyon's Moussa Dembele when the January transfer window opens.

In the last few days they have also been touted as a possible destination for Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller .

United have reportedly made Erling Braut Haaland their top target for the summer, with the young Red Bull Salzburg striker having scored an astonishing 18 goals in 11 games this season.
