Man Utd's pre-match Zoom farce forces Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to apologise

Manchester United's season has not got off to the smoothest of starts domestically – and it was a similar story with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Champions League press conference on Tuesday.

Conducted via Zoom because of the coronavirus pandemic, Solskjaer and United skipper Harry Maguire sat down at the AON Training Complex at midday to take questions from the world's media.

But technical glitches meant Solskjaer and Maguire were unable to hear the questions through the audio feed.

That meant the assembled media had to type them out in the chat feature of the Zoom facility.

It then fell to United's Head of Football Communications, Karen Shotbolt, to relay the questions to Solskjaer and Maguire, for the pair to answer, a process which was unsatisfactory for all concerned.

Unable to hear the questions from the start, a smiling and apologetic Solskjaer said to one questioner: “Can anyone hear? We can only hear every 10 words you say, so there's no chance we can understand.

“Sorry boys, it's just impossible to hear what you're saying.

"There's no internet in Manchester! Sorry about this.”

After the press conference, United flew to Istanbul for tonight's Champions League tie, but with Solskjaer unable to hear the questions at one stage he joked: “We might not make the flight!”

Solskjaer's men head to Turkey with six points from their opening two group games, after defeating PSG 2-1 in Paris and thrashing RB Leipzig 5-0 at Old Trafford last week.

But they continue to sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table following Sunday's 1-0 loss to Arsenal.

That defeat also ensured that, in start contrast to their European form, they have claimed just seven points from a possible 18 thus far, with only one point from a possible 12 on home soil.
