Man Utd's predicted line-up for Newcastle with Cristiano Ronaldo in starting XI

Manchester United's Premier League clash at home to Newcastle has been dominated by talk surrounding the remarkable return of five-time Ballon D'or winner Cristiano Ronaldo twelve years after he first left Old Trafford.

The Portugal international has been training with his new team-mates this week for the first time since he sealed his comeback, leaving Italian giants Juventus after three years in Turin.

Man Utd have enjoyed a stellar start to the new season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, currently sitting third after three games played with two victories and a draw under their belt as the Red Devils look to mount a serious title tilt.

It has been four years since United have lifted silverware of any kind in the form of the 2017 Europa League, while their hunt for a 21st league title has proved elusive for eight years - their last coming in Sir Alex Ferguson's final season at the helm in 2013.

However, United have spent big this summer on a number of the continent's most highly regarded players - all three of whom are expected to start against the Magpies.

David de Gea's place between the sticks is all but certain given Dean Henderson remains side-lined after he contracted Covid-19 in July, De Gea featuring in all three of United's league games thus far this season.

It is expected that Solskjaer will deploy his first-choice back four after summer signing Raphael Varane has already enjoyed one game in United colours before the international break away at Wolves.

The former Real Madrid stalwart left the United faithful foaming at the mouth with excitement on his debut, keeping a clean sheet and looking every inch the four-time Champions League winner as he dominated proceedings from the back.

Varane will partner club captain Harry Maguire, with full-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw either side of them, the latter expected to make his trademark marauding runs forward.

A likely midfield trio of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes is the most likely given Fred is unavailable as FIFA opted to ban several Brazilian Premier League players after the failed to report for international duty.

United will unleash one of the most lethal attacking trio's in the Premier League as teenage sensation Mason Greenwood is likely to be utilised from the left-flank with £73m former Borussia Dortmund man Jadon Sancho on the opposite flank for his first start at Old Trafford.

That leaves Ronaldo through the centre, with the Portuguese star undoubtedly keen on bagging a goal on his second United debut.

Solskjaer, when pressed on where he sees Ronaldo's best position once the deal had been sealed explained that he is "more of a centre forward for me at the moment, I want him in the box, scoring goals."

Man Utd likely starting eleven v Newcastle on Saturday September 11, 3pm at Old Trafford: (4-3-3): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Shaw; Matic, Pogba, Fernandes; Sancho, Greenwood; Ronaldo
