Manchester United's move to sign Harry Maguire could have a major impact on two other summer transfers.
The Red Devils are still looking to complete a deal to sign the England international and finally strengthen the heart of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's defence.
According to Sky Sports News , Maguire's departure would have a knock-on effect for England team-mates Gary Cahill and James Tarkowski.
The Foxes are likely to pursue Burnley ace Tarkowski if Maguire leaves, whilst that would then trigger the Clarets making a move for free agent Cahill as his replacement.
Cahill, 33, has been without a club since his release from Chelsea whilst Tarkowski has a large £50m release clause in his Burnley contract.
Leicester are holding out for a £90m fee for Maguire which would fund their move for Tarkowski.
United are yet to meet their asking price and could fall short of completing the move as they are unwilling to spend more than £70m.
With the clock ticking down on a move for Maguire, the Red Devils are reportedly considering alternatives and revived their interest in £45m-rated Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti.
The Frenchman is on their radar and could be let go by the Spanish giants, although they are yet to receive an official bid.
Their need for central defensive reinforcements has been stepped up after Eric Bailly was ruled out for five months with an injury sustained in pre-season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already added Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to his squad but has been frustrated in his recent transfer business.
Sporting Lisbon's Bruno Fernandes and Lazio's Sergej Milinkovic-Savic have been earmarked as potential midfield additions, whilst Paulo Dybala is being linked with a swap deal taking Romelu Lukaku to Juventus .
