Wales star Daniel James would be hot property should Manchester United make him available for transfer this January.
That's the view of former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who feels the 23-year-old is in need of more game-time than he is currently receiving.
After making a terrific start to life at Old Trafford last season, scoring four times in his first four games, James went off the boil a tad as United struggled to find consistency.
As such he was tipped to leave the club in the last transfer window, with long-term admirers Leeds backed to reignite their interest in a player who almost signed for them in January 2019.
Now Everton have been linked with his services, with Robinson believing he would "force" his way into Carlo Anchelotti's plans at Goodison Park.
“Dan James would force his way into that team," Robinson told Football Insider.
“He is really struggling to get game-time at Manchester United which I am surprised by because he hit the ground running when he came in.
“He is a young player who needs to be playing. You cannot just sit and train at Manchester United and think you will get your chance soon.
“It would be a surprise but there could potentially be an opportunity to buy Dan James in January or the summer."
James scored his first Champions League goal for United this week in a 4-1 win over Istanbul Basaksehir, but minutes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have been hard to come by this season.
As such, and with Marcelo Bielsa such an admirer of the former Swansea City man, Robinson says he wouldn't be shocked to see a transfer twist and James head to Elland Road.
“We have seen what he can do," he added.
"Everton will be looking at him and I would not be surprised if Bielsa went back after him. We know that he almost signed for Leeds before United.
“There will be a lot of clubs after Dan James should he become available.”
