Man Utd's Daniel James transfer takes surprise twist as shock club enter running for Swansea City man - reports

Manchester United are to step up their attempts to get the Daniel James deal over the line amid reports Monaco are rivalling them for his signature.

The Swansea City winger has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for the past few weeks, with United moving ahead of the chasing pack.

The Welshman has just joined up with his international team-mates ahead of their Euro 2020 qualifiers with Croatia and Hungary following the sudden death of his father .

United and Swansea have been locked in negotiations, according to the Evening Standard , with a sticking point being the two clubs' valuation of the 21-year-old.

United see him as worth around £10million, while Swansea are looking for double that price, despite James heading into the last year of his contract.

United's hand has now been forced by Ligue 1 side Monaco, who themselves are an attractive proposition, despite United's obvious appeal.

Leeds United, Liverpool, Brighton, Man City and Tottenham have all been linked with James, but it appears that despite late interest from the French club, United are edging closer to the Swansea starlet.

James' international boss Ryan Giggs has urged his players to focus on the upcoming qualifying games, not transfer speculation.

"I had a chat with the players last week about how important these two games are," said the Wales manager .

"We need 100 per cent focus on these games and there is a good period after the matches to sort things out.

"Sometimes you can’t stop it, but all I can do is put in the players’ minds how important these games are. They all know that.

"They’re professional lads, are focused on these games, and that’s what I need them to be. Hopefully that’s the case."
