Man Utd's Cristiano Ronaldo transfer hands rivals Man City advantage

Erling Haaland could become a top target at Manchester City now after Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Manchester United.

The Portugal international completed a sensational return to Old Trafford in the final week of the transfer window.

But it came after a failed deal with their local rivals City, who were strongly linked with the 36-year-old.

That failed to transpire after they refused to pay Juventus any sort of transfer fee and United came and stole him under their noses.

It also comes after Pep Guardiola's doomed pursuit of Harry Kane after Tottenham refused to sell their main man under any circumstances, despite the Englishman's desperation to leave.

After the departure of Sergio Aguero, City are without a proper No. 9 - though Guardiola's style of football usually dispenses with the need for one anyway.

Nevertheless, their attempts to sign Kane and Ronaldo reveal that they are in the market for a striker and a pretty big name will become available next summer.

Haaland has started this season exactly where he left off - in searing form - netting three in three Bundesliga games already.

Last Saturday he was on the scoresheet for his country as his prowess in front of goal looks as formidable in the yellow of Dortmund or the red of Norway.

But next summer the 21-year-old is expected to be in a different colour - however, it remains a mystery where that will be.

United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are all interested in the wonderkid.

And Dortmund will be powerless to combat an exit when a release clause worth £68m comes into effect.

A move to the Premier League has always been on Haaland's mind having been born in Leeds and watching his father - Alf-Inge - take part in the competition.

There is a case for all the top teams making the forward their main man next season.

Where will Erling Haaland end up next season? Comment below

United have Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in charge, who coached him at FK Molde and remains in close contact with his countryman, but the arrival of Ronaldo will surely have an effect.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has signed a two-year contract, with an option for a third, worth £500,000-a-week while Haaland's wage demands would be in the same bracket.

Can the Red Devils truly afford to pay £1million-a-week on just two players, who take up the same position?

City, on the other hand, have a glaring hole in their squad that Haaland would easily step into and become a key figure for years to come, while also following in his father's footsteps who also played for the club.
