Man Utd's Amad set for Birmingham City loan after stuttering start to career

Birmingham City are closing in on a loan deal for Manchester United ’s Amad.

The Ivorian teen has been allowed to leave Old Trafford to gain first-team experience and Lee Bowyer is bang in the race to sign the talented teen.

The former Atalanta winger has found opportunities limited this season since joining from the Serie A club last season.

Amad was the subject of a £19m fee just 12 months ago and was given immediate exposure under former Red Devils’ boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

In August, Solskjaer praised the youngster's efforts in training and admitted the winger could well stay at the club instead of departing on loan.

“With Amad, I have to say he’s doing really, really well in training, he’s come back a little later after the Olympics and now he’s looking really good," said the Norwegian.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he stays as well. It has to be the right loan, the club, way of playing.”

But the teen has been used sparingly this time out and interim chief Ralf Rangnick signalled that the player would be allowed to leave on a temporary basis when quizzed on his future ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup tie against Aston Villa.

Birmingham have already taken two youngsters from Old Trafford after confirming the arrival of Teden Mengi earlier this week.

That is in addition to Tahith Chong who had enjoyed a good start to life at St Andrew’s before he was sidelined with a serious groin problem.

They will be hoping to seal the deal this week in the hope of giving the St Andrew's faithful something to cheer following the club's FA Cup exit at the hands of League One Plymouth Argyle.
