Man Utd's Amad Diallo torn between shirt numbers ahead of Old Trafford arrival

Amad Diallo is toying over which shirt number to take on as he nears his Manchester United arrival.

The youngster has been signed from Atalanta but has not yet made the move to Old Trafford.

Diallo could cost United £38m with add-ons but is highly thought of.

He is expected to join the U23s with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer set to send him on the same pathway as summer signing Facundo Pellistri.

"We felt Facundo would benefit," said Solskjaer.

"He started training with the first-team – he did well but we couldn’t give him game-time so we thought we’d give him a run of games in the [Under] 23s and he’s benefited from that.

"His confidence has been given a boost. He’s shown in all the games that he can impact the game.

"With Amad, hopefully we can get him in and we’ll see how the squad looks and how he looks and how he settles as soon as possible.

"They’re both talented players that we believe will have a long career here. It’s important we find the right time."

The teenager is learning English ahead of his arrival and is torn between which shirt number he wants, according to Norwegian journalist  Fredrik A. Filtvedt.

It is between No 19 or No 79 with both currently vacant.

The 19 shirt carries with it more history having been donned by more players.

Marcus Rashford recently vacated it with Danny Welbeck and Gerard Pique also recent occupants.

Dwight Yorke wore the 19 shirt as United claimed the treble in 1999 with Nicky Butt also donning it earlier in his career.

79 has never been worn giving Diallo a chance to bring some prestige to it.

His exploits in Serie A have certainly set him on the path to big things.

Diallo has played predominantly with Atalanta's youth teams but has been given several opportunities to shine with the first team.

He scored on his debut becoming the first player in Serie A history born in 2002 to do so.
