Man Utd respond to Paul Pogba transfer approach amid Real Madrid interest

Real Madrid's pursuit of Manchester United's wantaway star Paul Pogba has reportedly suffered a setback.

The Red Devils are desperate to keep hold of their midfielder, who has two years left to run on his current contract, despite interest from Real Madrid .

However the French superstar is keen to make the move to Spain and has previously made clear his desire to play for Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.

Spanish daily AS claimed on Tuesday that the Bernabeu giants have opened discussions with their Premier League counterparts and told them to name their price for Pogba.

But United are not willing to part ways with their star player as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sees him as an integral part of his plans next season.

United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is adamant that he will reject any bid for Pogba.

Madrid remain hopeful that Pogba will still arrive next season and the report goes on the claim that the midfielder may have to force through the move himself.

The French World Cup winner returned to Old Trafford in 2016 for a then world-record £89million fee but has largely underwhelmed during his three seasons in Manchester.

Despite being their top-scorer last season with 16 goals in all competitions, much of the blame for United's poor campaign has fallen on Pogba's shoulders.

The World Cup winner is weighing up a fresh start but should they miss out on his signature, Madrid could turn their attention to Christian Eriksen.

The Tottenham star revealed last week that he is keen on seeking pastures new this summer but United are also keeping tabs on his situation in north London.
