Man Utd respond to Dortmund's deadline over Jadon Sancho transfer

Manchester United are in no rush to meet the August 10 deadline set by Borussia Dortmund as they plan a summer swoop for Jadon Sancho.

The English forward has long been a target for the Red Devils and could return to British shores in the coming months.

But the German side are keen to dictate proceedings and have given United until mid-August to finalise a deal.

Dortmund boss Lucien Favre wants to know which players he will be working with for the upcoming season.

But United believe they can still seal Sancho's services beyond the August deadline, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Dortmund are seeking £100m for the 20-year-old and, should they stump up such a fee beyond August 10, United are confident they can still get their man.

Complications lie in the structure of the deal with the Red Devils keen to pay a lower fee upfront - similar to the Bruno Fernandes transfer they completed in January.

United want to pay £60m initial for Sancho with an additional £30 - £40m in add ons.

That would allow them to conduct more summer business given they will not have forked out a nine figure sum on one player.

Sancho has been a revelation since leaving the blue half of Manchester in 2017 and this term scored 20 times for the German outfit.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made a conscious effort to add young, homegrown talent which furthers Sancho's attraction.

Old Trafford chief Ed Woodward has warned however, despite United's financial might, that they will have to act appropriately this summer as clubs deal with the knock on affects of the coronavirus.

He said: "The ongoing disruption from the pandemic – and the economic pressures it has created – has shown why it is so important for football clubs to focus on their financial stability," he added.

"We are fortunate to have a strong and resilient commercial business which has supported long-term investment in our team. That will continue, albeit with extra caution in the coming months as we navigate our way through this uncertain period."
