Man Utd 'respond to Barcelona enquiry' over Victor Lindelof transfer

Barcelona have reportedly made enquiries to Manchester United over a deal for Victor Lindelof.

Ernesto Valverde wants to add a new central defender this term after seemingly missing out on top target Matthijs de Ligt.

Barca had been in pole position to sign the Dutchman but it now appears he is heading for Juventus .

Mundo Deportivo reports the Spanish champions contacted United earlier this month to explore a potential deal for Lindelof.

The Swede enjoyed a much-improved second season at Old Trafford after a tricky start following his £31m move from Benfica in 2017.

He is said to have impressed Barcelona boss Valverde in the Champions League clashes for United last season.

Barcelona are said to have been keeping tabs on Lindelof since his time with Benfica, having snapped up former teammate Nelson Semedo.

The Red Devils made it clear to Barcelona that Lindelof was not for sale but that has not put the La Liga giants off, who have continued to make their interest clear.

And they believe the failure to qualify for the Champions League could see the Swedish defender look to leave Old Trafford.

United are already on the lookout for a new central defender and will prioritise that search once a deal for Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is completed.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had also been keen on Ajax skipper De Ligt while Harry Maguire is also on United's radar, although Manchester City are leading the chase.

United have been frustrated in their pursuit of West Ham's Issa Diop with Solskjaer under pressure to deliver more new signings ahead of the return to pre-season at the start of next week.
