Man Utd 'register transfer interest' in Dayot Upamecano in strong show of intent

Manchester United have 'registered an interest' in Dayot Upamecano in a show of intent, according to reports from Germany.

The RB Leipzig centre-back is one of the most sought after defenders in world football, and is also attracting attention from Real Madrid and Man City.

The Red Devils have been shaky at the back all season, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to strengthen his defence at the next available opportunity.

Frenchman Upamecano is contracted with Leipzig until 2023, meaning the German club are under no pressure to sell.

But Upamecano does have a €45million (£40m) release clause in his contract, which will appeal to the Red Devils.

According to SportBILD, via SportWitness, Man United are one of three clubs who have registered their interest in signing Upamecano.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently spoke out about Upamecano, admitted he was excited to see him play against the Red Devils in the Champions League.

"There's always rumours and speculation about good players for Manchester United," Solskjaer told a press conference.

"I've always tried to respect [that] they are players for other teams and don't want to comment on every player we are linked to.

"But since he's playing against us tomorrow, I know he's a very good player and we can see him close up tomorrow."
