Bruno Fernandes is set to become Manchester United's seventh most expensive player in history should he complete his expected move to Old Trafford, but he could end up taking a spot in the top four.
Barring any late hitches, the Portuguese midfielder will tie up his switch from Sporting Lisbon in the coming days, with the 25-year-old joining for an initial £46.6million.
However, the deal to sign Fernandes also includes two separate and significant bonuses totalling £21.2million, and those may take the final transfer fee up to a huge £67.8million.
That would mean that Fernandes was United's fourth-most expensive player of all-time, behind only Romelu Lukaku, Harry Maguite and Paul Pogba.
Pogba still holds onto top spot as United's most costly purchase after rejoining club from Juventus for £89.3million in the summer of 2016.
The move came just four years after the Frenchman had left United for Juve on a free transfer, with the club happy to shell out a record fee to bring him back to the club.
United signed two of their top five most expensive players ever last summer, when Harry Maguire (second) joined from Leicester City for £80million and Aaron Wan-Bissaka (fifth) arriving from Crystal Palace for £50million.
After Pogba - who is widely expected to leave the club in the summer - the two other members of the top five are both no longer at the club.
Lukaku, the club's third most expensive buy at £75million from Everton, was to last just two seasons at Old Trafford before leaving to join Inter Milan for a fee of around £65million last summer.
The £59.7million Angel Di Maria, in fourth, played for United for just one season before leaving for Paris Saint-Germain at a loss of £11million.
