Man Utd receive surprise injury boost ahead of Watford clash

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been handed the surprise boost of having Romelu Lukaku available for selection ahead of schedule.

The Man Utd striker has been out of action with a foot problem, and was due to return next week, but could now be involved in his sides clash with Watford on Saturday.

Lukaku was preparing for a comeback against Wolves on Tuesday, but the Sun report that Solskjaer is keen to include him in his squad for the match with the Hornets.

The 25-year-old has not played since the trip to Arsenal on March 10, and also missed Belgium's international fixtures.

He has since returned to training however, and will now seek to regain his fitness before the crucial Champions League tie with Barcelona .

It is thought Lukaku picked up the original injury in the last round of the Champions League against PSG.

The striker was given treatment after a heavy challenge from PSG's Marquinhos, with scans later showing he suffered a muscular issue.

Solskjaer is not likely to risk Lukaku from the off against Watford however, with Marcus Rashford expected to start up top.

It will be the Norwegian's first match in charge of United since it was confirmed he would be the new permanent manager of the club.

Solskjaer had been hired on an interim basis following Jose Mourinho's sacking, but has now signed a three-year contract at Old Trafford.

United have performed well under his leadership, winning 14 of his 19 matches at the helm.

They have also only suffered one defeat in the 13 league matches he has been boss for, with his other two losses coming in cup competitions.

"The last few months have been a fantastic experience and I want to thank all of the coaches, players and staff for the work we’ve done so far.

"This is the job that I always dreamed of doing and I’m beyond excited to have the chance to lead the club long-term and hopefully deliver the continued success that our amazing fans deserve.”
