Man Utd pull out of Paulo Dybala deal amid concerns over striker's desire to join

Manchester United have pulled out of a move for Paulo Dybala, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prepared to go into the season without striking reinforcements - even if Romelu Lukaku leaves.

United had been locked in talks with the Juventus forward, but pulled the plug over concerns about his motivation to head to Old Trafford.

It’s believed wage demands and excessive agent fees led Solskjær to believe the Argentina international was joining for the wrong reasons.

Romelu Lukaku was set to head in the opposite direction - and United are still trying to find a buyer for the wantaway striker.

But while a swap with Dybala was seen as an ideal scenario - Solskjaer is adamant he only wants players who buy into his long-term vision for the club.

Despite telling executive vice chairman Ed Woodward he would need to replace Lukaku, the emergence of Mason Greenwood has convinced him he can enter the new season with his current pool of forwards.

United are on the verge of completing the £80m signing of Harry Maguire, but Solskjaer still wants as many as two more recruits before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

He wants a midfielder and will continue his pursuit of a Lukaku replacement if the Belgium international leaves.
