Man Utd Premier League fixture postponed as Red Devils discover full schedule

Manchester United's opening-day clash with Burnley has been postponed.

The Red Devils were due to kick off their Premier League campaign at Turf Moor on September 12.

However, due to United's involvement in the Europa League, the Premier League have agreed to honour the minimum 30-day break for clubs taking part in UEFA competitions.

That means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will now kick off their new season a week later, at home to Crystal Palace on September 19.

Manchester City's meeting with Aston Villa has also been delayed due their run to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Midweek fixtures are at a premium as competition organisers try and fit a full season into one less month, with the first four rounds of the Carabao Cup - Premier League sides enter in the second and third rounds depending on European commitments - accounting for the first four midweek slots of the campaign.

Later in the season, FA Cup replays have been scrapped to further ease the burden on squads, while all 20 competing clubs wait to learn when they will be able to play in front of a crowd again with fixtures currently behind closed doors due to the pandemic.

The number of live games will increase from 200 to 220 for this season only, with 12 on Sky Sports, six on BT Sport and two on Amazon.
