Man Utd post bizarre tweet congratulating 20th Century Fox after Bohemian Rhapsody bags four Oscars

Manchester United fans may have noticed some strange activity from the club's Twitter account when they posted their congratulations to 20th Century Fox after Bohemian Rhapsody won four awards at the Oscars.

The biographical film about Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of rock band Queen, won in four categories at the Academy Awards, with Rami Malek winning the award for Best Actor.

On Monday afternoon, a tweet appeared on the official Twitter account congratulating the American film company after Sunday's success.

It read: "Congratulations to all the cast, crew and staff at @20thCenturyFox, who worked on @BoRhapMovie, for winning four awards at the #Oscars last night!"

The tweet caused confusion among the club's fans but it's the latest in a line of promotional tweets as part of the deal United struck with 20th Century Fox in 2016.

As part of the agreement, the club's players - including Wayne Rooney, David De Gea and Chris Smalling over the years - have appeared in corny adverts for previous film releases such as Deadpool and Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

The latest post suggests that social media stars such as Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba could soon star in another mock-up advert.

As one of the world's biggest football brands, the Red Devils are renowned for their wide-ranging commercial sponsorship portfolio.

Their 'global partners' include several drink companies, pillow and mattress manufacturers and even tyre makers.
