Man Utd players 'unhappy with Champions League contract clause' at Old Trafford

The Manchester United players are reportedly unhappy with a contract clause that could see their wages slashed by 25 per cent.

The clause, which is a part of the Old Trafford club's policy, sees players hit with a pay cut for failing to qualify for the Champions League.

Last season some of the new players saw their weekly wage slashed by 25 per cent.

The same clause is in play this campaign, and according to The Sun, is one of the reasons for David de Gea stalling on signing a new deal to remain at Man United.

The paper claim that De Gea isn't alone in feeling aggrieved at Manchester United as a number of other stars are also unhappy with the unpopular clause.

The Red Devils were on course to qualify for the Champions League last season but fell short in the final few games of the campaign.

Chelsea pipped them and Arsenal to the post, with the Blues even leap-frogging Tottenham to third place in the process.

This season Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under intense pressure to return the Red Devils to the Champions League, with his job likely on the line.

The Norwegian strengthened his United side with three signings in the summer window, landing Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire.

All three have featured in the Red Devils' opening two fixtures.
