Man Utd stars acted on dressing room message in stunning style against Leeds

Scott McTominay has revealed that he and his Manchester United team-mates discussed the need to score more often at Old Trafford before they stuck six past Leeds.

The United midfielder opened the scoring within 90 seconds and had grabbed a brace within three minutes.

It opened the floodgates as the Red Devils went in at half-time 4-1 up.

They scored another two in the second-half to round off a 6-2 demolition and continue their good form.

But prior to their hefty win finding the back of the net on their own patch had been a major issue.

United had only scored once from open play, and that was on the opening day of the season.

McTominay and his colleague places an onus on being more prolific in the final third as they aim to make Old Trafford an intimidating place to visit.

He told Sky Sports: "You just go on the pitch to do your job. You don't want to be getting too carried away. It's nice to score two goals and the team do a really good job.

"For us the next game, every game, is a cup final and manager's firmly reiterated that to us.

"Last we were far too inconsistent approaching games not in the right frame of mind but I feel like this year we have to be so dialled in, so focused in every way that we're approaching games.

"It's good that we scored six today. We said today in the dressing that we need to get used to scoring goals at home. It's so important to have that fortress when teams come here."

McTominay is not often known for his goalscoring exploits.

His two strikes opened his league account for the season, but he admits it was the sort of game that suited his style.

"Obviously it depends what personnel you're playing against," he added.

"Leeds strengths and weaknesses as a team we spoke about a lot. It was a good game for me.

"I'm used to playing high energy, high tempo football matches and for us as a team we played."
