Man Utd player and Memphis Depay send Tottenham star Steven Bergwijn a message after Man City goal

Timothy Fosu-Mensah and former Manchester United forwards Memphis Depay and Romelu Lukaku were among the players sending messages to Tottenham's new signing Steven Bergwijn on Sunday night.

Bergwijn, a January transfer from PSV Eindhoven, opened the scoring for Spurs on his debut against Manchester City, before Heung-Min Son condemned Pep Guardiola's men to a frustrating defeat.

City had dominated the game until Bergwijn chested the ball down in the area and volleyed a strike into the far corner. It was his first shot of the game.

Netherlands international Bergwijn is a popular player among teammates, one of whom is United defender Fosu-Mensah, who is good friends with the Spurs man from their youth international days.

Fosu-Mensah commented on Bergwijn's Instagram post following the game with the supportive message that translates as: "Behaviour what I understand and support," accompanied by three heart emojis.

Also commenting on the post was former United man Depay, who simply put praying, world and a flag emoji. Another former United player commented on the post as Romelu Lukaku wrote: "Golooooo."

Depay also paid tribute to Bergwijn on his own account, posting an image of Bergwijn celebrating with the caption: "2020 is YoungKing season #proud". Fosu-Mensah commented on that post, too, writing: "Pure."
