Man Utd outline stance on finishing Premier League season with Liverpool set for title

Manchester United have officially backed the decision to continue this season's campaign when safe to do so, even though it would mean that Liverpool will be handed their first league title in 30 years.

The top tier has been postponed until April 30 at the earliest, but there has been suggestions that the coronavirus outbreak will push the league back even further, possibly even past the summer.

A decision is yet to be made regarding what to do with the current season in elite football, with the 2020/21 campaign set to begin in August.

Some have suggested that the league should finish now, and Liverpool be handed the title after playing just 29 games, while others are of the belief that it should be annulled, just like what the FA controversially declared most non-leagues to be this week, meaning that there will be no trophies or relegations.

However, the most popular idea seems to try and finish the league when appropriate - and attempt to get the new season underway as close to August as possible, if not that month precisely.

United have now come out to say that they give their full backing to complete this season's competitions, even if it means the extreme likelihood of handing the title to their biggest rivals, Liverpool.

The club published a statement which read: "The club fully supports the collective intent to complete the Premier League, FA Cup and the UEFA club competitions."

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is just two wins away from securing the club's first title crown in 30 years.

Meanwhile Old Trafford manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has enjoyed a relatively good season with United this campaign.

His side are still in all competitions apart from the League Cup: they are yet to face Norwich City in the FA Cup quarter finals; they have a 5-0 advantage over Austrian side LASK going into the second leg of the round of 16, while in the Premier League they sit in fifth spot, three points off Chelsea in fourth.
