Man Utd outcast 'furious' after missing out on Deadline Day transfer

Manchester United outcast Marcos Rojo was said to be furious after missing out on a transfer deadline day move to Everton .

Rojo was absent as his United team-mates went out for a club meal on Thursday night ahead of their Premier League opener against Chelsea on Sunday.

The versatile Argentine defender is thought to be surplus to requirements at United following the signing of £80million defender Harry Maguire - but Rojo has now been left in limbo after a proposed transfer to Everton fell through.

Rojo had been told he could leave United on transfer deadline day, with Maguire's arrival meaning Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had seven centre-backs on his books.

Everton were keen on taking Rojo to Goodison Park, having also made a bid to take fellow United defender Chris Smalling on loan.

After their swoop for Smalling failed, a loan agreement was in place for Everton to take Rojo on loan, according to the Mail - until United moved the goalposts on Thursday morning.

Having slapped a £30million valuation on Smalling, United were only prepared to listen to last-day cash offers for Phil Jones and Marcus Rojo rather than loan moves, preferring them off the wage bill completely.

The failure to do a deal left Everton without the centre-back they wanted - and reportedly left 29-year-old Rojo fuming.

Rojo, who joined United from Sporting Lisbon for £16m in 2014, has become the central defender to make way following Maguire's arrival for a world-record fee for a defender.

Maguire and Swedish international Victor Lindelof will be United's first-choice centre-back pairing, but Red Devils boss Solskjaer still sees Smalling as a valuable part of United's squad.

Eric Bailly injured and out until Christmas, while Matteo Darmian has been told he can leave.

Darmian favours a switch to his native Italy, which means United have until September 2, when the window closes there, to negotiate his departure.
