Man Utd or Dortmund? Wayne Rooney suggests Jadon Sancho should stay with Bundesliga side

Wayne Rooney has suggested that Jadon Sancho should stay at Borussia Dortmund, despite being one of Manchester United’s top targets.

United were prepared to pay in excess of £80million to bring Sancho back to England, a deal which would make the former Manchester City starlet the most expensive English player of all time.

But with Dortmund having already lost Christian Pulisic to Chelsea, striking a deal for Sancho has proven near-impossible, and United have since signed Daniel James from Swansea City.

However, Sancho remains one of United’s top targets, though there is an admission within Old Trafford that they may have to park their interest until next summer, when Dortmund might be more open to offers.

But Man Utd legend Rooney believes that staying Dortmund may remain the better option for Sancho.

Speaking to German publication Bild, Rooney said: "Dortmund is a great club with great fans, they trust their young players and you can see that in Sancho and the progress he has made in the last 12 months.

"Now Jadon has to ask himself whether he would get the playing time he gets in Dortmund when he moves to England, or would he just sit on the bench?

"Playing time is so important for a young player like Jadon, so if he gets the most playing time in Dortmund, he should stay there."
