Man Utd old boy Ander Herrera embracing being "hated" at PSG

Ex-Manchester United central midfielder Ander Herrera says he prefers being at a club that are not popular ahead of his debut season at Paris Saint-Germain.

The 29-year-old joined the Ligue 1 holders on a free transfer this summer after his contract at United expired, and could make his competitive debut when PSG take on Nimes on Sunday.

Speaking to Goal , Herrera also said he is looking forward to playing alongside some of the world-class talent that the team boast.

"[The club's reputation is] that of a giant!" he said. "A club that is respected, that is classy. A club where three or four of the best players in the world play. I know too that it is one of the most hated clubs in France, and I like that.

"First of all, [I joined PSG] for the project. The club has a classy and glamorous side that I like a lot. Then, because I wanted to continue to play for a big club," he said.

Herrera spent five seasons at Old Trafford following his move from Athletic Bilbao in 2014, helping the side win an FA Cup, League Cup, Europa League and Community Shield.

He admitted he felt too strongly towards his old side to consider playing for another English team.

"And, honestly, I could not see myself playing in another English club," he added. "When you have played for Manchester United , it is difficult to go elsewhere.

"I was happy to play for Athletic Bilbao, another club that is dear to me, and for Manchester United, the biggest club in the United Kingdom, where I felt loved. Today, I am happy to be at PSG, the biggest club in France."

Herrera will be hoping he can help inspire PSG to their first ever Champions League win next season, with the club still yet to have progressed further than the quarter-finals since they reached the semis in 1995.
