Man Utd 'offered long-term target on loan' ahead of summer transfer window

Marseille have given Manchester United the option to sign long-term target Kevin Strootman on loan this summer.

The 29-year-old midfielder arrived at the French club from Roma last summer for £23million but has endured a tricky campaign.

Marseille have been unable to challenge Paris Saint-Germain for the Ligue 1 title and currently sit sixth with just one game of the league campaign remaining.

That has ultimately meant they need to cut costs ahead of the new season and they are keen to get the Dutchman off their wage bill.

And Sky Sports have claimed that United and Premier League rivals Everton have been offered the chance to take Strootman on a temporary basis this summer.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol tweeted: “Everton and Manchester United offered chance to sign Marseille/Holland midfielder Kevin Strootman on loan.

“Marseille signed him from Roma for £23m last summer. Marseille need to cut costs after a disappointing season.”

Strootman was heavily linked with a switch to United when he was at Dutch side PSV but he ultimately joined Roma in 2013.

The Holland international, capped 42 times by his country, spent five years in Italy before opting for a switch to France.

But, having made 34 appearances in all competitions for Marseille this season, it looks like he could be on the move again.

United are keen to bolster their ranks after a miserable season which saw them miss out on Champions League football.

Paul Pogba has been strongly linked with a switch to Real Madrid , which would mean Strootman would be a like-for-like replacement for the Frenchman.
