Man Utd 'not given up' on Jack Grealish transfer after recent talks with Aston Villa

Manchester United have not given up hope of signing Aston Villa's Jack Grealish this summer.

The playmaker has long been linked with an exit from Villa Park despite helping them retain their top flight status last term.

Old Trafford has seemed an obvious destination given Grealish's style of play and United's want to sign homegrown players.

United are still in contact with the midlands club over a possible £75m deal with the two parties speaking in the last week, reports the Daily Mail.

Grealish is keen to challenge himself in the Champions League - something a move to Manchester could offer him.

The academy talent is a huge favourite at Villa Park and whilst they do not need the money they won't stand in his way should the right offer be tabled.

Jadon Sancho has been United's No 1 summer target but Borussia Dortmund are playing hard ball over a move.

The Red Devils failed to complete a deal by the German club's proposed date and they may now turn their attention to Grealish.

There are question marks over the 24-year-old's conduct with his ignoring of lockdown rules the latest misdemeanour.

United are not put off by those however given the quality they believe he can add as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to build at Old Trafford.

Grealish's conduct may have factored in to his latest England snub however with Gareth Southgate again opting against picking the midfielder.

He created more chances than any other English player last term but is supposedly behind a host of players in the pecking order.

Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden have both been handed their first call ups and Southgate spoke about his decision to leave out the Villa skipper.

He said: “With Jack, the simple answer is Mason Greenwood. He’s competing in my view against Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, Jason Sancho and Raheem Sterling.

“I know Villa have played him as an eight, I don’t see him in that role for us. He could play as a 10 but we haven’t played with a 10. But also some of those other players I’ve talked about would be very good 10s as well."
