Man Utd news: Wout Weghorst hits out at Paul Scholes as transfer admission made

The international break is in full swing, with much interest around Manchester United and the club's ongoing takeover process.

But matters on the pitch are also of interest, with Erik ten Hag's side looking to secure a place in the top four. One of the key members of his side has been Wout Weghorst, with the Dutchman now hitting back at criticism levelled at him by United legend Paul Scholes.

Weghorst's response to Scholes comes as Robin van Persie hailed Tyrell Malacia's impact since his summer move and transfer target Randal Kolo Muani opened the door to a move to the Red Devils. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Manchester United news.

Weghorst hits back at criticism

Striker Wout Weghorst has come in for heavy criticism since his arrival in the January transfer window, particularly from United legend Paul Scholes. But Weghorst has now hit back at Scholes and those who have criticised him.

“That’s a lot of matches and it shows the trust in me. It also shows that I am doing a good job for the team. That was the thing I wanted when I came here – to contribute and try and help the club to be successful to win trophies. We have one now," he said..

"We have two more to go with the Europa League and FA Cup, and we want to get as high as possible in the table and definitely top four for the Champions League. So it just shows me that I am being part of it."

Van Persie hails Malacia

Former United star Robin van Persie has admitted his pride at seeing Tyrell Malacia perform so well at Old Trafford. Malacia has impressed since arriving from Feyenoord, with Van Persie delighted with how his former team-mate has settled in.

"I do believe, per window, [you have] to get a couple of the right players in, and Tyrell Malacia is one of them. He wasn’t really well known before he came," Van Persie said.

"I played with him at Feyenoord, so I knew how good he was, and still is, and he is proving that every game. When it clicks and when it's clear what to do, you can see that they know exactly what to do in ball possession, as well when the opponent has the ball."

Muani makes transfer admission

United appear to have handed a boost to their hopes of signing Randal Kolo Muani, with the Frenchman revealing his desire to join a "big club". Muani is currently starring for Eintracht Frankfurt, but has opened the door to departing the Bundesliga side.

“We talk about it a lot already, but I try to be focused on my club. We continue our performances and we will see this summer. Afterwards, I always dreamed of playing in big clubs,” he told L’Equipe when asked about the reports linking him with an exit.

“I thought I was going to need some time to adapt, maybe a year. But everything exploded. Either way, I’m ready for any challenge. I ask the club to get me my statistics on my matches each time."
