Man Utd news: Ten Hag agrees with Ronaldo criticism and leaves door open for Maguire exit

Manchester United may be gearing up for the FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday, but there are still plenty of other things going on at the club.

Erik ten Hag has his sights set on a second piece of silverware to end his debut campaign as manager – all he has to do is follow Brentford’s lead in the final game of the Premier League season.

The FA Cup final – and the protracted takeover saga – are the main things on the agenda currently, but the summer transfer window is also looming. The window opens on June 14, meaning there is just two weeks until the wheeling and dealing can begin.

With that in mind, here are the latest United headlines from Mirror Football.

Ten Hag corroborates Ronaldo’s take

Erik ten Hag has admitted that the culture at Manchester United has not been good enough since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure 10 years ago.

It is something Cristiano Ronaldo mentioned in his explosive interview with Piers Morgan – and it is telling that Ten Hag agrees.

“We were aware of it,” Ten Hag told The Times, when referencing the club’s struggles prior to his arrival. “I informed myself. After Sir Alex left, the culture changed over the years.

“One of the biggest qualities Sir Alex had was to have high standards. I wanted to bring it back in, so that everyone in this organisation lives the highest standards and the football players too.”

Rashford determined to stop City

Marcus Rashford picked up two awards on Monday night and then immediately declared his intentions to stop Manchester City winning the Treble.

City are two games away from matching the achievements of the United side from 1998/99, with the FA Cup final and Champions League final on the horizon. But Rashford, who won the Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season trophies, is out to stop them at Wembley.

"Make sure United remain the only club to have done the Treble," he said when asked about his priorities. "That's the most important thing."

Maguire exit door open

Harry Maguire could be allowed to leave United this summer, with his lack of game time this season an obvious issue.

Ten Hag is happy to be able to call upon the £80m defender, but will not guarantee him minutes, with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez preferred.

“No-one would be happy with this situation [not playing]. He's not as well. He trains always on best levels, with 100 percent effort,” Ten Hag said.

“So he handles that situation well and he's in that manner and in his captaincy he's important for the squad. Let's say I'm happy he's here and when we needed him he did his job, but it's also a decision he has to make [over whether he leaves]."
