Man Utd news: Mount responds to transfer interest, Garnacho broken after FA Cup final

Manchester United's season came to an abrupt end on Saturday afternoon when they were beaten 2-1 by Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Ilkay Gundogan's brace was enough to seal City their second trophy of the campaign after they lifted the Premier League title last month. City now have the opportunity to compete a historic treble when they face Inter Milan in the Champions League final next weekend.

As for United, Erik ten Hag's men were denied another domestic honour after winning the Carabao Cup in February following a 2-0 win over Newcastle. However, it will go down as a successful season for the Red Devils, having also finished third in the Premier League - securing qualification for next term's Champions League.

Here are the latest news to come from Old Trafford.

Mount on future

Mason Mount refused to comment on his future amid rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United.

The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford this summer, with his contract about to enter its final year at Chelsea. Mount was quizzed on his future while at the Spanish Grand Prix. He told Sky Sports: "I am here to enjoy this race today, it's an amazing day and I cannot wait to watch it."

Meanwhile, Ben Chilwell doesn't want Mount to leave. Off the field, the pair are close and have been spending the weekend at the Spanish Grand Prix. When asked about Mount's future, Chilwell told Sky Sports: "It's none of my business personally but he is my best mate so I would love him to stay."

Reece James was also quizzed on Chelsea team-mate Mount and admitted the whole dressing room would be unhappy to see him depart. He said: "If he goes, everyone will be sad to see him go."

Garnacho on FA Cup final hurt

Alejandro Garnacho has opened up on the hurt of losing the FA Cup final.

The Argentine shone in a cameo role after coming on for Christian Eriksen on the hour mark. He hugged the left-hand channel and caused the City defence problems at every opportunity. Garnacho almost equalised late on with a curling effort but it drifted inches past the post.

However, he was gutted after losing. He said on Instagram: "I am broken. People who know me know how obsessed I am with winning, and today it couldn't be.

"Probably one of the hardest days of my life, we will get up again because we are Manchester United. As he said several times, God has taught me to never give up and I promise to the fans that we will bring joy to you very soon."

Man Utd fans make Rashford demand

Marcus Rashford showed his class after Manchester United's FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City as he consoled his team-mates following the full-time whistle.

After the game, a number of United stars broke down in tears and lay down on the pitch in dejection. Wout Weghorst and Alejandro Garnacho were amongst those who didn't look best pleased, while Bruno Fernandes could be spotted looking shell-shocked in the background.

However, a video on social media has been doing the rounds of Rashford going over to Weghorst and Garnacho to provide some support after his side's defeat. He went over to Weghorst and pulled him back up rather than sulking on the ground, before picking up Garnacho and giving him a word of advice in his ear.

Rashford has since been hailed by the United fans for what he had after the full-time whistle - and many think he should be a future captain. One said: "Pure class from Marcus Rashford, who lifts dejected teammates after the loss. Future club captain in the making." Another added: "He was the first to congratulate the City players as well which I thought was class. I’ve got a feeling he’ll be leaving this summer."
