Man Utd news: Erik ten Hag slammed as Harry Kane transfer pursuit given boost

Manchester United's aim of securing Champions League football in Erik ten Hag's first season at the helm looks likely to be achieved after another positive display.

The Red Devils welcomed Sean Dyche's Everton to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon knowing that the result would have huge implications at both ends of the table. Thankfully for United, they made light work of the Toffees as goals from Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial ensured the hosts took all three points.

Considering how both Newcastle and Tottenham went on to win their games just hours later, it was essential United got the victory if they wanted to keep distance between Spurs and themselves while trying to leapfrog the Magpies, who sit above them on goal difference.

Mirror Football has identified some of the main headlines around United on Monday, April 10.

Pundit Richard Keys has criticised Ten Hag once again after the United boss bemoaned the Premier League fixture schedule.

Marcus Rashford appeared to pick up a groin injury at the tail-end of the win over Everton and the United boss put the sheer amount of games played as a reason behind the strain.

Keys was having none of it and made his feelings on Ten Hag's remarks crystal clear while addressing the Dutchman's claims on BeIN Sport.

The presenter blasted: "Erik, as regards the scheduling and injuries, it’s the English Premier League. If you don’t like it, there is always of course Eredivisie, where you can go and ply your trade."

Kane transfer pursuit given a boost

United's attempts to sign Tottenham talisman Harry Kane have been handed a boost after German giants Bayern Munich are understood to have expressed their reluctance when it comes to a bidding war.

Bayern have long been touted as a potential destination for the England skipper, who is once again being touted with a Spurs exit after another campaign is going to pass him by with no silverware.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would certainly rather not sell Kane to a direct Premier League rival, but if United show greater willing than Bayern when it comes to forking out the required cash, he may have very little choice.

Kane's current valuation in the eyes of those running things at Spurs is still in excess of £100 million, but the Red Devils will do their best to try and drive that figure down.

They could at least partly do that on the pitch, by securing Champions League qualification next season at the expense of the North Londoners.

Ten Hag defends Antony

Antony has come in for some serious criticism since his mega-money move to Manchester in the summer, but Ten Hag has insisted the Brazilian has performed adequately.

The ex-Ajax man has found goals hard to come by since donning the red of United, but he clearly still has the backing of his manager.

Ten Hag was asked whether players within the squad were capable of stepping up to ease the goalscoring burden on top-scorer Marcus Rashford or whether he needed fresh blood.

He replied: "Maybe both. I think they can. Antony already scored a couple of goals - seven or eight goals - scoring in big games, it’s not bad for a winger, right? In his first season. Also against big opponents like Barcelona, [Real] Betis."
