Man Utd must pay 'astronomical transfer fee' to land target Saul Niguez

Manchester United have been told that they can sign Saul Niguez in January - if they splashed an 'astronomical transfer fee'.

The Red Devils are only likely to swoop for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul if Paul Pogba was to depart - with Real Madrid still highly interested in the France international.

Zinedine Zidane is a huge fan of Pogba, which is mutually felt, and could reopen their interest in January.

The World Cup winner has been injured since September, after damaging his ankle, and keeps having a return to action delayed.

If that was to happen, the Red Devils would attempt to shift the cash picked up on Pogba on Saul - with Ajax's Donny van de Beek also on their wish list.

Atleti will not make it an easy pinch for United, and would apparently ask for an inflated asking price, according to Mundo Deportivo.

That price tag could be £128million at the very least - with the La Liga outfit not keen to sell unless it would be impossible to ignore the offer.

Saul is under contract until 2026 having spent his who career in Madrid - he started in the Real Madrid academy before moving to Atleti, and has only moved away since when he spent a season on loan at Rayo Vallecano.

The 25-year-old has netted once in 15 league appearances this season, but his performances have created heavy interest.

According to the Daily Mail recently, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be given a war chest to land Saul and Erling Haaland when the window reopens next month.

While, Atletico are hoping to shift winger Thomas Lemar in January, after coaching staff have apparently 'given up' on him.

Atleti are therefore looking to replace him with Valencia's Rodrigo - with offers for Lemar welcome.
