Man Utd must back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the transfer market after appointment, says Gary Neville

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has called for the club to back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the transfer market after handing the Norwegian a three-year-deal at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer, 46, was appointed as interim manager in December following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

United have lost just once in 13 Premier League games since Solskjaer's arrival, pushing the club back into the race for the top four.

A near-miraculous comeback win to reach the last eight of the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain only strengthened the case for his appointment. Neville, though, says the club must now back their new manager.

"I’m delighted for Ole," the former defender tweeted. "I didn’t think this would happen when he was appointed.

"However, the results and spirit in the club have been incredible since he arrived and he deserves it. He now needs support in the transfer market in terms of finance and the right resource."

Solskjaer's first game as permanent manager comes at home to Watford on Saturday.
