Man Utd monitoring Alex Telles transfer alternative as club steps up left-back search

Ajax star Nicolas Tagliafico is open to a Premier League move before the window shuts.

Leicester, Manchester United and Chelsea have all made checks on the Argentina left back this summer.

It is understood Tagliafico has been told he can leave Ajax this summer if any club matches the £23m asking price with the 28-year-old keen on a move to a big club which can offer European football.

United have already been keeping tabs on him as a back-up option in case they cannot secure Porto’s Brazilian left back Alex Telles.

Chelsea also looked at him before signing Ben Chilwell from Leicester who have also eyed him up as a replacement after selling the England left back.

Tagliafico has captained Argentina and has made no secret of his desire to play in English football after proving to be a huge part of Ajax’s recent successes.

But after Ajax lost several key players like Donny van de Beek and Frenkie de Jong, they could be ready to lose another one in Tagliafico.

Tagliafico said: “I think it’s the most competitive league. When you are a child, the target is to come to Europe and play in a top league like the Premier League."

Atletico Madrid have also been credited with interest in Tagliafico, but the club's financial issues mean their move is in doubt.

Meanwhile, Telles remains United's priority target and they offered cash plus Diogo Dalot to try and get the deal over the line.

But Porto rejected the terms as they have no interest in Dalot returning to the club two years after leaving for Old Trafford.

Telles helped the Portuguese giants win the league and cup double last season and has a £36.7million release clause in his current deal.

Given he has less than 12 months remaining on his contract, Porto are willing to accept a substantially lower offer, though they are demanding the fee is paid up front.
