Man Utd midfielder Fred makes vow to fans after reaching 100 game landmark

Manchester United midfielder Fred has said that he is looking to “make history” at the club after he made his 100th appearance for the Red Devils in their 1-1 draw at West Brom last weekend.

The Brazilian signed from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018, having spent five years playing in Ukraine.

He found it tough to get regular game time during his first year in England though. Jose Mourinho never seemed to take to the player and questioned his fitness.

It was probably to Fred’s benefit that the manager was replaced before the half way stage of his debut campaign.

And while it took time, the Brazil international eventually forced his way into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.

Bruno Fernandes is the only midfielder at the club who has played more minutes in the Premier League this season, with Fred having made 27 appearances in all competitions.

Speaking to the Inside United magazine, he explained his happiness at bringing up a century of games for the famous old football club.

“It represents a great landmark for me, it’s what everyone aims for,” he said.

“It took me by surprise when you just told me now. I’m really pleased. It’s a great landmark, and as I said I hope I can play many more games for United,” the 27-year-old added.

“I’d like to leave a legacy here. It’s somewhere all players want to be, so I look to do my best, play in many more games and make history here.”

It certainly won’t be easy to be famously remembered at a club with the long record of success which United possess.

But they are well placed in the league and still have two cup competitions to aim for this season.

Fred will hope to make appearance number 101 on Thursday night when United face Real Sociedad in the Europa League.

“We know to expect a difficult game, but we’re going for the win,” he said.
