Man Utd meet agent to sign reluctant £60m star as he snubs Liverpool who accept £23m offer for Swansea City loan hero

Here is the latest transfer news and rumours from the Premier League and beyond on the morning of Thursday, October 1.

The battle to convince Ousmane Dembele

Manchester United are reportedly trying everything they can to convince Ousmane Dembele to join them on loan.

The £95m winger ideally wants to stay at Barcelona, with United said to be locked in talks with his representatives to change his mind.

The Premier League side want a loan deal but Barca are keen to sell, with a cut-price fee of around £60m expected to be enough.

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed the player's current reluctant stance, also claiming he previously turned down Liverpool and Juventus this summer. But he says high level talks are now taking place with the aim of securing a deal.

Romano said: "Manchester United contacted the agent of Dembele and are putting so much effort in to convince the player who already refused bids from Liverpool and Juventus and always wanted to stay at Barcelona this summer."

The strange £20m Arsenal rumour

Manchester United have reportedly responded to speculation they are close to signing Arsenal utility man Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Reports in German media claim United are close to agreeing a £20m deal with the Gunners, who can play in either full-back positions or in midfield. It was reported that "the deal and paperwork [was] 80 per cent done".

But United sources have told the Manchester Evening News he is not a target.

The Old Trafford side are expected to sign Porto full-back Alex Telles instead in the coming days.

Brewster set for £23m move

Former Swansea City loan star Rhian Brewster is set for a stunning £23m move to Sheffield United, according to reports.

The Sun report the Blades have lodged a £23m bid, with the Premier League champions prepared to accept.

The 20-year-old impressed during a superb loan spell at Swansea last season, helping the Welsh side into the Championship play-offs.

United's bid is said to be a guaranteed £18, plus another £5m in potential add-ons. It will also include the buy-back clause Liverpool are insisting on.

The England Under-21 international also attracted interest from Crystal Palace.

Spurs close in on striker

Tottenham are reportedly closing in on Benfica striker Carlos Vinicius.

The Brazilian bagged 25 goals for his side last season and now looks to be on his way to north London.

The Mail report Spurs are set to loan Vinicius for the season with the option to buy him if he impresses.
