Man Utd, Man City and Arsenal urged to join race to sign Leicester star

Arsenal legend Paul Merson reckons Leicester face a battle to keep hold of loan star Youri Tielemans this summer - and has urged the Premier Leagues Big Six clubs to consider a swoop.

Belgium midfielder Tielemans has excelled at the King Power Stadium since a January switch from Monaco for Adrien Silva, who went the other way.

A summer deal to buy the youngster permanently would cost £40million, but he has hit the ground running at the King Power Stadium.

However the Foxes may face competition for his signature, given how impressive the 21-year-old has been following his temporary move to the Premier League.

Why Man Utd fans could be left praying rivals Man City complete their treble

“I think so [a bigger club will look to sign Tielemans],” Merson said ahead of Leicester ’s clash with title-chasing Manchester City on Monday night.

“I think he’s special, I really do, I think this kid is a top, top player, I really do. The only thing is he’s worked with Brendan [Rodgers] the last so many weeks or couple of months.

“Surely they’re getting into his earhole about signing and they’ve got to get his lad signed. I think he can go to any of the top four, or top six.

“If I was Arsenal or Man United, I’d be looking at him all day long, all day long.

“Even Man City, even at Man City I’d be looking, I think he’s that good.

“He’s only young, how old is he? 21? 21, wow, wow.”

Foxes boss Brendon Rodgers recently confirmed his intention to try and make the move permanent by saying: “There will be dialogue between the clubs. He’s clearly a player we would like to work with and I understand the supporters love watching a young player like that.

“I’m sure the club will do everything they possibly can to bring him in.”
