Man Utd make U-turn on Jadon Sancho transfer decision thanks to Mason Greenwood

Jadon Sancho has long been one of the hottest properties in European football, with Borussia Dortmund regularly having to fend off interest from a number of other clubs across the continent.

Manchester United have often been rumoured to be keen on bringing the star back to Manchester after his two-year stint as part of local rivals City's academy set-up.

Last summer in particular was rife with reports indicating Sancho was Old Trafford bound, but a deal failed to materialise after Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's side were put off by Dortmund's high asking price.

Though they currently sit 10 points adrift of league leaders Manchester City, it has undeniably been a stellar season for United - who find themselves in second place, nailed on for Champions League qualification and still boast the chance of ending the campaign with a major honour should the Europa League final go their way later this month.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer can credit a number of his stars with stepping up a level as the season has gone on, though it was a fairly shaky start for United - three of the four league defeats came in the opening three weeks of the season.

Luke Shaw, Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani have all made headlines for the right reasons, the latter in particular stealing the show in recent weeks, but Mason Greenwood's transition from promising fringe player to vital first team member has been a joy for the United faithful to behold.

The 19-year-old is the youngest Red Devils star to reach the 100-game milestone, earning rave reviews despite actually being on course to end this campaign with less goals in all competitions than the previous.

Greenwood's goals this season have at vital times against big opponents, with goals away at Tottenham and an FA Cup strike against Liverpool further endearing himself to his manager and fans alike.

It was Greenwood's strike that turned United's recent tie at Aston Villa on its head. Solskjaer's men found themselves 1-0 down before a Bruno Fernandes penalty levelled the score - cue Greenwood, who fired a fierce drive into the bottom corner of Emi Martinez's net to hand his side the lead.

These recent performances have led those high up in the United hierarchy to question whether Sancho is actually needed, given Greenwood's ability to play on the right wing as well as a central striker.

According to Manchester Evening News, United reportedly see Greenwood as their 'standout' right-winger, and may see a move for Sancho as blocking their youngster's progression.
