Man Utd 'make late transfer offer' for Romelu Lukaku replacement

Manchester United have reportedly made a late move for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.

The former Celtic striker was linked with a move to Old Trafford earlier this summer but initial interest was not followed up.

Lyon warned United the 23-year-old was going nowhere, with Dembele believed to be happy to stay with the Ligue 1 side.

But with Romelu Lukaku seemingly heading for the exit before the transfer window shuts, United have reignited their interest in Dembele.

Yahoo Sports France report the Red Devils have made a bid to Lyon for the striker.

Dembele only joined Lyon from Celtic a year ago and scored 20 times in all competitions last season.

That has attracted interest from across Europe and it remains to be seen if United will get the deal over the line before the transfer window shuts.

Lukaku's future remains unclear after talks over a swap deal involving Paulo Dybala with Juventus broke down.

Inter Milan, who have led the chase for the Belgian striker all summer, are still hopeful of tying up a deal.

The Italian side have had two bids rejected for Lukaku but are confident they can sign him for a cut-price fee.

Lukaku has trained with Anderlecht U18s this week despite having not been given permission by United to stay in Brussels.

He was expected back at Carrington on Tuesday but failed to report and it is unclear if he will return before the transfer window closes.

United have also been linked with a surprising move for free agent Fernando Llorente following his release from Tottenham .
